The Challenges
Connecting Volunteers with Relevant Roles.
The Volunteer Wellington team faced numerous challenges that impacted visitor engagement and call-to-action:
- Outdated design
- Site navigation
- Volunteer registration
- Content management
Overview
Volunteer Wellington is an independent non-profit organisation that connects prospective volunteers with hundreds of charitable groups in the greater Wellington region, as well as providing charities with training and support for recruiting and managing volunteers.
Improving these processes to create a seamless experience for volunteers and charity organisations was paramount to us when working on Volunteer Wellington’s site.
The Situation
Volunteer Wellington identified an opportunity to improve their digital experience for prospective volunteers, member organisations and corporate partners. The existing website had evolved over time, resulting in inconsistent navigation, duplicated content across more than 50 pages and no unified design system. The organisation sought a redesigned platform to simplify the volunteer journey, improve content management and create a more consistent user experience.
The Solution
We worked closely with Volunteer Wellington to redesign its digital platform around the needs of volunteers, member organisations and staff - delivering a modern Drupal website integrated with Infoodle CRM and other key services.
- Updated Information Architecture: Website navigation was rebuilt to create simpler user-journeys across the board for all types of users and visitors
- Updated Design: Website visual identity was completely redesigned, incorporating colour and te reo values to make the site feel more approachable. Reusable components were introduced to make the website easier to maintain and expand.
- Volunteer Opportunities: Search was placed directly in the homepage hero and main navigation, allowing visitors to quickly find volunteer roles. Dedicated job search, events and training pages were also created to support the volunteer journey.
- CRM Integration: Volunteer Wellington was supported in its move to Infoodle as its new CRM, with API integrations connecting the website and CRM. Volunteer groups can also be automatically created in Infoodle when they are created in Drupal.
- External Integrations: API integrations were established between Drupal and external platforms, including Infoodle, SEEK Volunteer and Do Good Jobs, allowing for greater reach.
